Fishing in the Sumy region
The Sumy region is located in the north-east of Ukraine. The climate here is moderately continental with cool winters and not hot summers. The northern part of the region is in the forest zone, and the southern part belongs to the forest-steppe zone. Lanshaft in this area is mostly flat. The highest point is 246.2 meters above sea level.
In the region there are 209 rivers (more than 10 km), their total length is 8490 km. The largest rivers are Desna, Psel and Vorskla. All of them belong to the Dnipro Basin, so they have a mass of fish. Fishing in the Sumy region is possible on lakes (their 537), and on ponds (they are even larger – 2191) and in reservoirs. The most favorite holiday destination for Sumy region residents is Lake Cechа.
Paid fishing in the Sumy region is even more developed. More than 2000 commercial ponds offer services for every taste. There are carp, pike, sports and even trout farms, for any purse size. The region has developed infrastructure and excellent service. There are many competitions here, there are many fish-rich reservoirs, which, of course, are eagerly waiting for your hooks.
The main characteristics of the region:
Where to go fishing in the Sumy region?
Where to go fishing? First of all, I would recommend you a trip to the Desna River. Despite the fact that this river flows only along the border of the region and is only 37 kilometers, but there is enough space for each fisherman. Psel and Vorskla – another great solution for fishing. These rivers are not as fast as the Desna, they flow smoothly among the forests that form a quaint pattern on the ground. On the banks of these rivers there are hydrological reserves and national nature parks, so you need to clarify the possibility of catching in such places.
If you are interested in catching carp, the best place for fishing is a pond or a forest lake. In the Sumy region, 537 farms are engaged in breeding fish, and most often they breed carp.
The most common types of fish in the region are carp, crucian carp, roach, perch, pike, bream, pike perch, chub, catfish, tench …
There are no salt ponds in the region, so it is sufficient to use standard fishing lines, hooks, fishing rods and drums. Currently, local fishermen usually use fishing rods, feeders and spinnings.
Do good …
And throw it into the water … I want to draw your attention to the fact that now the principle of “Catch – release” is very popular in Ukraine. This is promoted by the coolest sportsmen, bloggers and TV presenters. What’s the point of this? It’s very simple: fishing is a pleasure, and every participant of the process must get his portion. And the fish, including 🙂 So do not hesitate to let go of the fish.
I do not urge you to completely abandon the use of the fish that you caught. No! Fish soup and fried crucian, it’s very cool! I just encourage the fishermen to treat the fish with reverence.
And do not forget the catch quota! During the day you can get no more than 3 kg from the public pond. That’s enough!
