Fishing in the Lviv region

The Lviv region is located in the west of Ukraine at the junction of three tectonic structures: the East European and Western European platforms, as well as the Carpathian Mountains. Therefore, there are many ridges, hills and terraced plains.

The climate in the region is moderately continental, with mild winters and humid summers. The highest point of the region is Mount Pikuy. Its height is 1408 meters above sea level.

On the territory of the Lviv region is the main European waterway between the basins of the Black and Baltic Sea. More than 8,000 rivers flow here and the source of the Dniester River lies. The largest rivers of the region are the Western Bug, Dniester, Styr and Stryi.

Also in the Lviv region, more than 3000 artificial ponds and 20 reservoirs have been constructed.

Where to go fishing in the Lviv region?

Fishing on the rivers in the Lviv region is not always possible. For a simple reason – fluctuations in the water level caused by rain and melting mountain snow. Most fish in the rivers are predators, there are a lot of pike, perch and chub. Among the peaceful fishes in the rivers of the region, bream and roach are the most widely represented.

For other types of carp, it is best to go to commercial ponds and natural lakes. In them, local people extract silver crucian and carp.

For fans of trophy fishing I recommend Lake Prilbići, which is only 50 kilometers from Lviv. This lake is known for the fact that a carp weighing more than 29 kg was brought there from a reservoir located in the Volyn region. On this lake, fishing is available only on the basis of the sporting principle, but it’s worth it!

There are no salt ponds in the region, so it is sufficient to use standard fishing lines, hooks, fishing rods and drums. Currently, local fishermen usually use fishing rods, feeders and spinnings.

Attention! Fishing in the Lviv region is regulated by the laws and regulations of Ukraine. All fishermen should remember that in the spring, during the ban of the spawning, you can fish in the river only in the permitted places. A list of these places can be found on the website in the “REGULATIONS” section, and also check the dates indicated by me below. I must warn you about the following:

Do good …

And throw it into the water … I want to draw your attention to the fact that now the principle of “Catch – release” is very popular in Ukraine. This is promoted by the coolest sportsmen, bloggers and TV presenters. What’s the point of this? It’s very simple: fishing is a pleasure, and every participant of the process must get his portion. And the fish, including 🙂 So do not hesitate to let go of the fish.

I do not urge you to completely abandon the use of the fish that you caught. No! Fish soup and fried crucian, it’s very cool! I just encourage the fishermen to treat the fish with reverence.

And do not forget the catch quota! During the day you can get no more than 3 kg from the public pond. That’s enough!
