Fishing in the Kharkov region
The Kharkiv region is in the north-east of Ukraine. The relief here is flat-wavy with an inclination towards the basins of the Dnieper and Don rivers. Most of the reservoirs of the Kharkov region belong to the Don basin. The highest point of the region is at an altitude of 236 meters above sea level.
The total number of rivers and streams in the region is 867, 156 of them, more than 10 km long. Their total length is 6,405 km. The main river of the region is Seversky Donets, this is a very popular place for fishing and recreation. Oskol, Uda, Mzha and Bereka also flow here. The Dnieper-Donbass canal attracts Ukrainian fishermen. It connects the Dnieper and Seversky Donets rivers, providing water to the Donbass and Kharkov. At the same time, water rises to a height of 63 meters by means of electric pumps. There are plenty of different kinds of fish in it, but fishing is not allowed on the canal anywhere.
Paid fishing in the Kharkiv region is well developed. Here there are 2538 ponds, of which almost half are leased. So, to satisfy the demand of people of commercial fishing in the Kharkov region is all that is needed. Among the fishermen, a reservoir such as Chervony Prapor is most often mentioned. He is also most often mentioned by athletes. Specialization – catching trophy carp.

Where to go fishing in the Kharkov region?
I would recommend that fishermen start exploring the sights of the region from the reservoirs. Among the fishermen of Ukraine, great dignity is enjoyed by the Orel, Krasnopavlovsk, Pechenezh and Krasnooskol reservoirs. Here, amateurs catch both a predator and a peaceful fish. The most common types of fish for fishing are pike, perch, pike perch, crucian carp, bream and roach. It is worth paying attention, some of these reservoirs are especially popular in winter! Because of the crazy fishing people live there for weeks on the ice.
The Seversky Donets River is another attraction. Especially if you like to catch bream. In this river there is a strong current, steep banks and deep pits. All that this lovely fish loves. Also in the river there is a pike, catfish, chub, perch, ide, roach … And on the banks of the Donets there is a rich nature and many recreation centers.
There are no salt ponds in this region, so it is enough to use standard fishing lines, hooks, fishing rods and drums. Currently, local fishermen usually use fishing rods, feeders and spinnings.
Do good …
And throw it into the water … I want to draw your attention to the fact that now the principle of “Catch – release” is very popular in Ukraine. This is promoted by the coolest sportsmen, bloggers and TV presenters. What’s the point of this? It’s very simple: fishing is a pleasure, and every participant of the process must get his portion. And the fish, including 🙂 So do not hesitate to let go of the fish.
I do not urge you to completely abandon the use of the fish that you caught. No! Fish soup and fried crucian, it’s very cool! I just encourage the fishermen to treat the fish with reverence.
And do not forget the catch quota! During the day you can get no more than 3 kg from the public pond. That’s enough!
